Located in the historic city of Kamakura, the Inari Okappi Shrine is a Shinto shrine dedicated to Inari, the god of rice and fertility. Dedicated to the growth of rice fields in Chiba Prefecture, the shrine features a beautiful vermilion torii gate, a serene garden, and hundreds of fox statues (Inari messengers), which are said to have been sent by the shrine's primary deity to watch over the local community.

Visitor tip
To avoid long lines, visit the shrine early in the morning or late in the afternoon when many tourists have departed for the day.
Cultural notes
The Inari Okappi Shrine is known for its association with fox spirits (Kitsune), which are believed to be messengers of Inari. The shrine's most famous festival, the Chiba Prefectural Inari Festival, takes place in October and features elaborate floats adorned with fox statues.
