Located in the city of Takamatsu, Shiotetsu Hachiman Shrine is a historic Shinto temple dedicated to Hachiman, the god of war and patron deity of warriors. Dedicated to the prosperity of the city's fishermen and sailors, the shrine also honors its founding family, the Matsudaira clan, who were instrumental in the development of Takamatsu as a major port city during the Edo period.

Visitor tip
To get the most out of your visit, consider visiting during the annual Cherry Blossom Festival (March-April) when the shrine is adorned with beautiful lanterns and traditional food stalls are set up along the surrounding streets.
Cultural notes
As a testament to its historical significance, Shiotetsu Hachiman Shrine features a large, five-story pagoda, which dates back to 1868. The shrine's main hall, dedicated to Hachiman, is adorned with intricate wood carvings and features a stunning example of Japanese architecture.
