Located in the city of Akita, Eight Horseshoe Shrine is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the deity Susanoo no Mikoto and the storm god Susanoo. The shrine's name 'Hachimantai Jyofuku' literally means 'Eight Horseshoe Shrine', which refers to the shape of the mountain on which it stands. Founded in 733 AD, the shrine has a long history dating back to the Nara period.
