Located in the Ishikawa Prefecture, Katsunuma Shrine is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the spirit of the region's founding, Sanada Yukinao, as well as the local kami of the natural environment and the patron deity of fishermen and travelers. The shrine is known for its historic significance and beautiful architecture, which reflects various historical periods from the Nara to Edo eras.

Visitor tip
To make the most of your visit, try the local specialties such as 'sanada-yaki', a type of Japanese sweet potato that is believed to have been introduced by Sanada Yukinao himself.
Cultural notes
Katsunuma Shrine is famous for its unique architectural feature, known as 'haiden' which features a traditional thatched-roof shrine building in the western part of the compound, while the main shrine building, or 'honden', has a tiled roof. The shrine also hosts the annual 'Sanada-yaki Festival', where locals celebrate with traditional dances and performances.
