Cultural notes
Ishioka Shrine is famous for its association with the legendary Japanese poet Ariwara no Narihira, who was said to have written poetry under a tree in the shrine's grounds. The shrine also hosts an annual Festival of Learning (Kenjaku Matsuri) in June to commemorate Tenjin, which features traditional performances and exhibitions.
