Resha-gi Jinja, a Shinto shrine dedicated to the sun goddess Amaterasu in Shizuoka Prefecture, is one of Japan's oldest and most revered shrines. Cultural notes
As a coastal shrine, Resha-gi Jinja is deeply connected to the sea and the changing of the seasons. During the winter months, the shrine hosts a festival in honor of the god of fish and prosperity, known as the 'Fune Matsuri'.
Historical note
The shrine was founded during the Heian period (794-1185 CE), but its current structure dates back to the Edo period (1603-1867 CE).
