The shrine's name, 櫛色神社 (Tetsuirojinja), translates to 'Iron-Oxide Shrine'. The shrine's architecture reflects the Heian period style, with a distinctive tiled roof and a large torii gate. Historical note

The shrine was originally built during the Heian period (794-1185 CE) as a humble temple. It was later reconstructed and expanded during the Edo period (1603-1868 CE).
