Visitor tip

Visitors should dress modestly and remove their shoes before entering the shrine, then proceed to the large torii gate to make a wish upon seeing the ' mirror of truth' displayed on the left side of the gate.

Cultural notes

諏訪神社 is deeply connected to the mythology surrounding death and judgment. During the autumnal festival, visitors can honor Enma by leaving offerings of food and incense at the shrine. In contrast to other Shinto shrines, which focus on fertility and prosperity, this shrine is a unique example of a 'yurei' shrine dedicated to the spirits of the dead.
