比布神社

Hokkaido

Located in the scenic city of Hakodate, Hokkaido's second-largest city, Biibutsu-ji Shrine is a notable Shinto shrine dedicated to the god of war and prosperity, known as Bifuketsu no Kami and Shitennō. The shrine's architecture reflects its origins in the Edo period (1603-1867), with a wooden main hall surrounded by vermilion torii gates and shrines for various regional kami. Biibutsu-ji's importance lies in its association with the famous Japanese folk hero, Hachiman, said to have passed through the area during his travels. The shrine is also famous for its 'Five Great Deities' (Shitennō), a group of five deities believed to bring good fortune and prosperity.
