桑原神社

Hyogo

Located in the city of Nishiwaki, Hyogo Prefecture, Shitennō-ji Temple is one of Japan's oldest and most famous temples. Dedicated to the Three Pure Land Deities, it is said to have been built by Prince Shotoku in 593 AD. The temple complex features a five-story pagoda, beautiful gardens, and several historic buildings.

Visitor tip

To appreciate the beauty of the gardens, try to visit during cherry blossom season (late March to early April) or autumn foliage season (mid-November to mid-December).

Historical note

The temple was rebuilt after being destroyed during World War II.
