Located in western Hyogo, Ifuku Shrine is dedicated to Inari Okami, the Shinto god of rice, fertility, and prosperity. The shrine's current structure dates back to the 16th century, although its history dates back much further. The shrine is famous for its thousands of vermilion torii gates surrounding the main hall, a unique feature that symbolizes the abundance of rice in the region.

Visitor tip
Visit during the spring cherry blossom season to see the shrine's beautiful gardens and torii gates filled with blooming sakura.
Cultural notes
Ifuku Shrine is also famous for its role in Japanese folklore, particularly the legend of the 'Eight-Footed' or 'Eight-Legged' boar (shisa), which is said to appear before an impending war. The shrine's kami are believed to offer protection and good fortune.
Historical note
The shrine was rebuilt after the Great Hanshin Earthquake in 1995.
