Located in the heart of Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture, Shitennō-ji Inari Shrine is a historic Shinto shrine dedicated to Inari Okami, the kami of rice and industry. Visitor tip
To avoid crowds, visit Shitennō-ji Inari Shrine early in the morning or later in the evening. The shrine's many shops and stalls selling food, souvenirs, and handicrafts can be overwhelming; consider bringing snacks to enjoy while walking around the grounds.
Cultural notes
Shitennō-ji Inari Shrine is famous for its annual New Year's festival (Oshogatsu), which features traditional rituals, music, and dance performances. The shrine is also said to have connections to the legend of Susanowo, a storm god in Japanese mythology.
