Cultural notes
The shrine is famous for its festival of Mikage Matsuri, which takes place on October 15th. During this festival, thousands of paper lanterns are hung from the main hall, and visitors can make a wish by tying a ribbon to one of the lanterns. The shrine is also known for its beautiful gardens, including the Shinmei-ji Garden, which features over 10,000 trees.
Historical note
The shrine was originally founded in 593 AD during the Asuka period, and its current main hall was built in 1588.
