Cultural notes

Inari is often depicted as a shapeshifter and has associations with fertility, prosperity, and the natural world. At Early Tail Shrine, visitors can take part in the traditional festival of Setsubun, where they throw soybeans to ward off evil spirits on February 3rd.

The shrine was established in 718 CE, making it one of the oldest Shinto shrines in Kyoto.
