Chi-no-ike Inari Shrine, located in the heart of Tokyo's Koto ward (not 墨田区), is dedicated to the Shinto god Inari Okami, revered as the patron deity of rice, fertility, and industry. The shrine's main hall was built in 1852 during the Edo period. Visitors can admire the vermilion torii gates and explore the shrine's beautiful gardens. According to local legend, a Buddhist priest who wandered into the area in search of food found the shrine's founder, a humble farmer who welcomed him with a meal made from his own rice crop, and thus the shrine was established.

Visitor tip
For an authentic experience, try buying some of the famous red bean paste (senbei) sold only at this shrine's gift shop, a must-try snack when visiting.
Cultural notes
