Located in the city of Himeji, Hyogo Prefecture, Ō-En-sha (Great Avoider Shrine) is a Shinto shrine that dates back to the Kamakura period. Dedicated to the deity Enma-o, also known as the Judge of the Underworld, it serves as a protector of travelers and sailors. The shrine's architecture reflects its role as a purifying site, with a distinctive gate and a vermilion torii gate.

Cultural notes

Ō-En-sha is famous for its 'Yurei no Ichizoku,' a haunted house exhibit where visitors can explore a recreated Japanese mansion said to be inhabited by vengeful spirits. The shrine also hosts the annual 'Enma Festival' in November, which celebrates Enma-o's role as the Judge of the Underworld.
