Ehime

Longitudinal Shrine, located in the heart of Ehime Prefecture, is a tranquil oasis nestled among rice paddies and forests. Dedicated to the Shinto deity Irohazakura no Okami, Longitudinal Shrine is known for its majestic cedar torii gate, unique wooden structures, and serene gardens.

Visitor tip

Upon visiting, be sure to ring the large bronze bell located at the rear of the main hall, an act believed to bring good fortune and prosperity.

Longitudinal Shrine is notable for its annual Hachiman Matsuri festival, where visitors can witness traditional dances, music performances, and the ceremonial waving of purification arrows.

Historical note

Founded in 1889 by a local landowner, the shrine was originally dedicated to Hachiman, but later came under the protection of Irohazakura no Okami.
