Located in the heart of Kyoto, the Gokurakuji Taisha Shrine is a Shinto temple dedicated to the worship of Gunma no Okami, the deity of military leaders and samurai. Cultural notes

The shrine was founded in 767 by Prince Nagaya no Ōe, a brother of Emperor Shōnin. It is one of Japan's oldest shrines.
