Cultural notes
The Eightfold Shrine is closely associated with the mythology of the Japanese storm god Susanoo-no-Mikoto and his brother, the sun goddess Amaterasu. The shrine is also famous for its association with the legendary samurai warrior, Minamoto no Yoshitsune, who prayed here before his death.
Historical note
The Eightfold Shrine was rebuilt in 1568 after being destroyed during a civil war between the Takeda and Uesugi clans.
