Visitor tip

To get a glimpse of the shrine's famous 'Two-Pathway' (naminobashi), enter through the main torii gate and make a right turn, then proceed down the pathway that leads to the shrine's inner courtyard.

Historical note

The shrine was built in 718 CE by Emperor Saga, who ordered the construction to commemorate his son's death.
