Located in the heart of Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture, Tenman-ji Temple is one of Japan's most famous Shinto shrines, dedicated to the god of prosperity and good fortune, Tenjin. The temple has a rich history dating back to the 8th century, during the Nara period, when it was built as a Buddhist temple, but later converted to a Shinto shrine in 1564. Cultural notes

Historical note
The temple was rebuilt after being destroyed during the Boshin War in 1868.
