Kodaiji Shrine, dedicated to the sun goddess Amaterasu Omikami, is one of Japan's oldest and most prestigious shrines. Located in the heart of Tokyo, it was originally a Buddhist temple built in 730 AD during the Nara period. Over time, it was converted into a Shinto shrine and renamed Kodaiji Shrine. The current shrine building dates back to the Heian period (794-1185 AD).
