Cultural notes

The five-ten-sesse Shinto shrine is associated with the mythology of Susanoo-no-Mikoto, who is said to have traveled from the sea to visit his sister, the sun goddess Amaterasu. The shrine's architecture also reflects its connection to Ryujin and Tsukiyomi, two powerful kami of the ocean and sky.

Historical note

Established in the Heian period, the shrine has been rebuilt several times due to fires and natural disasters throughout its history.
