Located in Hyogo Prefecture, Ifukuji Shrine, also known as Wakamiya Shrine, is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the Sun Goddess Amaterasu. Its name "Wakamiya" means "Forested Plain Shrine." The shrine was established during the Heian period (794-1185 CE) and has undergone several restorations over the centuries. Visitors can admire its unique architecture and explore the surrounding forest, which is said to be the site where Amaterasu took refuge.

Cultural notes
Wakamiya Shrine is famous for its beautiful vermilion torii gate and its connection to Japanese mythology. According to legend, Amaterasu took refuge here after being exiled by her brother, Susanoo-no-Mikoto. The shrine also hosts the annual Wakamiya Matsuri festival in May, which features traditional dances, music, and offerings to the goddess.
