Visitor tip

Visitors can purchase a small wooden arrow, called 'Hachiman-tou,' at the shrine's front gate to pray for good luck and protection on their journey.

Cultural notes

The shrine is famous for its unique architectural style, which features a distinctive curved roof resembling an octagonal shape. This design allows the roof to shed snow easily, making it an ideal feature for a coastal location. Hachiman is also celebrated as the god of war, and the shrine's annual festival, 'Hachimantai,' typically takes place in May.

Historical note

The shrine was rebuilt in 1612 after being destroyed during the Sengoku period.
