Located in Nagahama, Shiga Prefecture, Tsukimi Shrine is dedicated to the sun goddess Amaterasu. The shrine's name, Spring Day Palace (Tsukimi), evokes the beauty of cherry blossoms and the warmth of spring. Visitor tip
To experience the best cherry blossom viewing, visit the shrine during peak bloom in late March or early April. Bring a gift of sake or mochi to show respect to the kami.

Tsukimi Shrine is famous for its beautiful spring festivals, particularly the annual Cherry Blossom Festival (Hanami) and the Lantern Festival (Toro Nagashi). The shrine's architecture reflects the Heian period, with a grand main hall and numerous smaller shrines dedicated to various kami.
Historical note
The shrine was originally dedicated to Amaterasu, but over time came under the protection of Oinazuka Okuninushi, a kami (deity) associated with rice and fertility.
