Akibayashi Taishidan Shrine, located in the heart of Kobe, is one of Japan's most famous and historic shrines. Dating back to the Heian period (794-1185 CE), it is said to have been founded by Emperor Shogo in 819 CE. The shrine is dedicated to the worship of the kami, Susanoo-no-Mikoto, a major deity in Japanese mythology known for his power over storms and the sea.
