As one of the oldest shrines in Japan, Autumn Leaves Shrine is steeped in Shinto tradition. The shrine's architecture reflects the Heian period, with a main hall adorned by vibrant autumn leaves during the fall season. Visitors can also participate in the annual Autumn Leaf Festival, which takes place on November 1st.
Historical note
Established in 1584 as a temple dedicated to En no Gyōja, a legendary shaman who lived during the Nara period, the shrine was later re-dedicated to Katsu-yama Shrine's patron deity, Yae-hime.
