Located in the town of Ryuhaku, Kasugai-shi, Shiga Prefecture, Me no Miyajin-gu is a historic Shinto shrine dedicated to the god of plums and peace. The shrine's main hall was originally constructed during the Heian period (794-1185 CE) and has undergone several renovations over the centuries. Today, visitors can admire the shrine's traditional architecture, as well as its beautiful plum blossoms that bloom in late February.

Visitor tip
To appreciate the plum blossoms, visit the shrine during the Plum Blossom Viewing Festival (Ume Matsuri) in late February, and be sure to remove your shoes before entering the main hall.
Cultural notes
Me no Miyajin-gu is associated with the mythology of Ryuhaku, a legendary town said to have been created by the god of plums. The shrine is also involved in local festivals and traditions, including the Plum Blossom Viewing Festival and the Kasugai Cherry Blossom Festival.

The shrine is believed to have been established during the Nara period (710-794 CE), although some sources suggest it may date back even further to the 6th century.
