The thirty-eight shrines of Kyoto, including the thirty-eight god shrines that make up the Thirty-Eight Shrine complex, are an important Shinto site in Japan's capital city. The Thirty-Eight Shrines were established by Emperor Ingyo during the Nara period (714-781 CE) as a place to honor all 38 gods of the universe. This shrine is dedicated to the worship and celebration of these multiple kami.
