Located in the town of Nikko, Tochigi Prefecture, Takigawara Shrine is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the god of wells and springs, Takigawa Hikoboshi. The shrine is famous for its beautiful autumn foliage and traditional architecture. Visitors can enjoy the scenic views of the surrounding mountains and rivers, as well as participate in seasonal festivals such as the Hikoboshi no Ichigo (Festival of the Bridge over the River) on July 7th.

Visitor tip

Cultural notes
The shrine is famous for its 'tako' (tortoise shell) style torii gate, which is believed to resemble a tortoise shell. This unique architectural feature is thought to have originated during the Edo period.
