Located in the heart of Ibaraki Prefecture, not Saitama, Okura Inari Shrine is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the god of rice and fertility. The shrine is famous for its thousands of vermilion torii gates that form a tunnel up the mountain, symbolizing the connection between heaven and earth. Visitors can pray for good fortune, love, and prosperity as they make their way through the gates.

Cultural notes

Inari is revered as a kami of fertility and prosperity. During the New Year (Oshogatsu) festival, visitors bring rice to the shrine and tie it onto a vermilion torii gate, symbolizing their wishes for good fortune and abundance. The shrine's gates are also famous for being used in traditional Japanese theater performances.

Historical note

The shrine was rebuilt in 1629 during the Edo period.
