Cultural notes
In Iwate Prefecture, mountain kami are considered particularly powerful and revered. Eight Clouds Shrine is also associated with the mythological figure of Zao no Okami, a storm god said to inhabit the mountain. During the annual Cherry Blossom Festival, visitors can participate in traditional dances and music performances.
Historical note
The shrine was rebuilt in 1871 after being destroyed during the Boshin War.
