Cultural notes

Tenman Shrine is known for its association with the legendary 'Three Sage Poets' – Saigō, Ariwara no Narihira, and Sakanoue no Tamayoshi – who are said to have visited the shrine in search of wisdom. The shrine also hosts an annual Tenman Festival (April 28-29) to celebrate the deity's patronage of education and culture.
