Located in the heart of Tokyo, Godai Shrine is a historic Shinto shrine dedicated to the kami god of wisdom and learning. The shrine's main hall features a unique architectural style known as 'fusatsu' which is believed to ward off evil spirits and bring good luck. The shrine's grounds are also home to several shrines dedicated to regional deities, including the enshrined kamis of Tsukiji and Hamarikyu.

Visitor tip

Godai Shrine is often visited by students seeking academic success and is also associated with the myth of the great teacher, Kobo Daishi. The shrine's annual festival in October celebrates the harvest season and features traditional dances and offerings to the kamis.

The shrine was originally built in 1600 during the Edo period as a branch of the nearby Hachiman Shrine.
