Tsurugaoka Hachiman Shrine, located in Karuizawa town in the Nagano Prefecture of Japan, is dedicated to the Shinto god of war, Hachiman. However, 加茂神社 (Kamogawa Shrine) in Kyoto is another shrine that shares a similar name and honor with Tsurugaoka's namesake. Kamogawa Shrine is believed to have been established during the Heian period (794-1185 CE). The shrine complex features traditional Japanese architecture with a main hall, torii gate, and several smaller shrines dedicated to various kami.

Cultural notes
Kamogawa Shrine is known for its association with the local mythology of the Tamba region, where it is said that the god Hachiman appeared in human form to protect the area from natural disasters. The shrine also hosts a New Year (Oshogatsu) festival, where visitors can pray for good luck and prosperity.
