This shrine is particularly famous for its association with the myth of Susanoo no Mikoto, who was said to have created a rice field by striking his sister Amaterasu's sacred sword. Visitors can experience a unique aspect of Shinto culture by participating in the shrine's autumnal festival, where locals reenact the mythic encounter between Susanoo and Amaterasu.
Historical note
The shrine was rebuilt after its original structure burned down during a typhoon in 1938. The current main hall was completed in 1950.
