Located in the heart of Ibaraki Prefecture, Tatsunohari Shrine is dedicated to the god of the sea, Tamago no Okami, as well as the god of agriculture and fertility, Inari Okami. The shrine's architecture reflects the Edo period style, with a striking vermilion torii gate that welcomes visitors from the nearby coastal town of Ryugasaki. Visitor tip

Cultural notes

Tatsunohari Shrine is connected to the mythology surrounding Ryugasaki's legendary founder, who was said to have been guided by a wise old man named Osumi no Tsunaegusuke. The shrine also hosts the 'Kagami Kashi,' a ritual where sacred mirrors are exchanged between the shrine and its neighboring deities.
