Cultural notes

Tenjin is also associated with the legend of Sakamoto Ryoma, a key figure in Japan's Meiji Restoration. The shrine hosts an annual Tenjin Matsuri festival in July to honor this legendary figure and promote education and cultural exchange.

Historical note

The shrine was founded in 1874 by Tokugawa Ieshige, a direct descendant of the famous Tokugawa family.
