Cultural notes

Mount Yama Shrine is associated with the legend of the ' Mountain God' (Yamadakumi no Kami) who was said to have been summoned by the local villagers for protection and good harvests. The shrine is also famous for its unique 'Shōnen Shōjū' festival, which takes place in May and features traditional dances performed by boys dressed as mountain spirits.
