Located in the city of Kita-ku, Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture, the Arashi Shrine is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the god of storms and lightning, known as Arashi no Kami. The shrine's architecture reflects traditional Japanese design, with a vermilion torii gate and a wooden main hall. It is one of the oldest shrines in Hyogo Prefecture, dating back to the Heian period (794-1185 CE).

Visitor tip
To avoid getting struck by lightning, visitors can make a donation of rice at the shrine's donation box before entering.
Cultural notes
As the god of storms and lightning, Arashi no Kami is often invoked during typhoons and other severe weather events. The shrine also hosts an annual festival in May to celebrate the arrival of spring and the return of calm weather.
