Located in Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture, Dayotsu Shrine is dedicated to the god of the sea, Okuninushi, and the goddess of fertility, Takamago Hime. The shrine's architecture reflects its coastal location, with a prominent torii gate and a unique curved roofline reminiscent of a wave. Visitors can walk along the scenic coastline while exploring the shrine grounds.

Cultural notes

Dayotsu Shrine is closely associated with the mythology of Okuninushi, who is said to have descended from Mount Takao to bring civilization to Japan. The shrine also hosts an annual Hikawa Taisha Festival, which features traditional dances, music, and food stalls.

Founded in 757 CE by Prince Takechiyo, son of Emperor Shōmu.
