Aiodatsumiya Shrine is a Shinto shrine located in Hikone, Shiga Prefecture, dedicated to the god Aoi no Tsurugi, a sword deity associated with the legendary Emperor Ōjin. The shrine was built during the Heian period and features a traditional Japanese architecture style, with a main hall and several smaller shrines. Visitors can walk through the beautiful gardens and explore the various shrines within the complex. Aiodatsumiya Shrine is also famous for its beautiful autumn foliage.

Cultural notes
Aoi no Tsurugi is said to be one of the three most sacred swords in Japanese history, along with the sword of the Sun Goddess Amaterasu and the sword of the Moon Goddess Tsukiyomi. The shrine also hosts an annual autumn festival, known as the Aoi Matsuri, which celebrates the deity's connection to Emperor Ōjin.
Historical note
The shrine was built in the Heian period (794-1185 CE), during the reign of Emperor Ichijō, who was revered as a god at the site.
