Spring Day Shrine is a Shinto shrine located in Shizuoka Prefecture, dedicated to the kami of spring and new beginnings. Founded during the Heian period (794-1185), it has played an important role in local agriculture and water management. The shrine's main hall features a striking example of traditional Japanese architecture, with a distinctive curved roofline known as a 'tsukubai' for purifying the hands before approaching the shrine.

Visitor tip

Cultural notes
This shrine is closely tied to local agriculture and water management. During the spring equinox (Shunbun no Hi) festival, locals pray for a bountiful harvest and good water supply. In addition, the shrine's tsukubai pool is said to have healing properties.
Historical note
The shrine was rebuilt several times throughout its history, including after a devastating earthquake in 1896.
