Located in the city of Akita, Tooheizan Shrine is dedicated to the Shinto god of fertility, agriculture, and prosperity, named Arawashi, as well as the Shinto god of medicine, Namahagane Hachiman. The shrine is famous for its historic wooden torii gate, which dates back to 1712. Visitors can explore the beautiful garden and take a stroll up the 117 steps to the nearby mountain, Tooheizan.

Visitor tip
To fully appreciate the garden's beauty, try visiting during cherry blossom season (late March to early April), when the trees are adorned with vibrant pink blooms.

Historical note
The shrine was originally built in 1591 as a family shrine for the Date clan, who were powerful daimyos of Akita.
