Cultural notes
The shrine is famous for its association with the god of war, Hachiman. According to legend, a shrine was built at the site in memory of his victory over the Minakuchi clan. During the spring festival, men dressed as Hachiman ride through the streets, symbolizing the god's battle against evil.
