Located in the city of Yamagata, Imperial Palace Shrine (also known as Kogakuin or Ōdaijin) is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the sun goddess Amaterasu Ōmikami, who is said to have ruled the Japanese imperial line. The shrine's architecture and design reflect its historical significance as the site of the imperial palace from 718 to 1869.
