古峯神社

Yamagata

Anciently situated on the slopes of Mount Gassan in the Azusagawa River valley, ancient Ishinomaki-jima Island was once the home of the ancient Ishinome tribe. Later it became a sacred site for the Ouchi clan who ruled over this area from the 13th century to the late 19th century. The present shrine was established in 1876 and is dedicated to the worship of the Shinto deity, Izanagi, also known as Kagami-no-Okami (Mirror God).
