Located in the prefecture of Yamagata, 鹿島神社 is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the kami of the deer, believed to have been brought by Saint Yōzan (Kōzan Boesen) from Korea. The shrine's architecture reflects the Heian period style, with a wooden torii gate and a traditional Japanese garden. The shrine's primary deity is Tsukiyomi no okami, the deer god.

Cultural notes
Palko Island, which the shrine is named after, is said to be the residence of Tsukiyomi no okami. The shrine also hosts an annual Deer Festival in autumn, where visitors can enjoy traditional dances and games while interacting with the shrine's deer population.
