Located in the city of Echizen, Ishibashi Shrine is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the god of the sea and fishing, Kannon (also known as Senkō-tenjin), as well as Hachiman. The shrine's architecture reflects its importance as a major port town, with traditional Japanese buildings such as the main hall and torii gate. Ishibashi Shrine is also famous for its beautiful gardens and scenic views of Echizen Bay.

Visitor tip
For a unique experience, visit Ishibashi Shrine during the annual Sea Festival (Umizarai Matsuri) in October, which features traditional performances, food stalls, and beautiful fireworks displays over Echizen Bay.
Cultural notes
As a coastal shrine, Ishibashi Shrine has strong connections to the mythology of the sea god Okuninushi, who is believed to have created the world from a bundle of reeds. The shrine's architecture also reflects its importance as a center for trade and commerce in medieval Japan.
Historical note
The shrine was founded in 1632 by the Tokugawa shogunate to ensure safe passage for ships traveling between Japan and China.
